The Introduction of the Special Issue

The superhard materials, which the Vickers hardness HV are higher than 40 GPa, have attracted great scientific interest due to their wide applications in wear-resistant coatings, cutting and drilling tools and abrasives. The representatives of such materials are the B-C-N compounds with strong covalent bonds, such as diamond-like BC2N and cubic BN. Other representatives are the transition metal borides, carbides, nitrides and oxides with high electron density and high elastic moduli.  This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for the research community to discuss recent developments concerning novel methodologies, characterization and synthesis of new hard or superhard materials and investigate their structural, electronic, optical, elastic, mechanical, and thermodynamic properties under high pressure.

Submitted articles should not be published or under review elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to the journal’s standard peer review process. Criteria for acceptance include originality, contribution, scientific merit and relevance to the field of interest of the Special Issue.
