Aerogels: Novel Methodologies, Synthesis and Applications

2019-03-20

The Introduction of the Special Issue

Aerogels are very light and highly porous materials that are intriguingly and complexly networked with large internal surface area, high hydrophobicity with extremely low density. These materials present enormous opportunities in the fields of material science, engineering and biomedical. These features make them an ideal choice for applications as thermal and acoustics insulators or as optical, electrical and energy storing devices. However, their exploitation for a wider spectrum of applications is inhibited primarily by their handling, complex process parameters, methodologies and elaborate synthesis.

This Special Issue of Aerogels aims to provide a platform for the research community to discuss recent developments concerning novel methodologies, characterization and synthesis for applications in a variety of domains from super insulation and super capacitors to trapping of molecules and enzymes for drug delivery and biological entities as well as semiconductor application in the fields of sensors, catalysts and devices.
