The Introduction of the Special Issue

Carbon, the fourth most abundant element in the universe, insures inexpensive production of carbon-based materials for various technological applications. Due to their unique physical and chemical properties, carbon-based nanostructures are promising materials for applications in frontier technologies. Any advancement in the synthesis and engineering of carbon nanomaterials is a step closer to achieve high performance, durable, and economical devices for the future.

The aim of this special issue is to welcome articles discussing any significant advancements in carbon nanomaterials, such as synthesis and engineering, exploration and/or improvement of new physical and chemical properties, and potential applications.

 

The Research Scope of the Special Issue

·Synthesis of carbon nanostructures such as diamond, Q-carbons, graphene, graphene/carbon quantum dots, CNTs, carbon nanofibers, fullerene, carbyne, and composites with other materials.

·Application-oriented engineering of carbon nanomaterials such as controlled growth, coating, straining, doping, forming composites, heterostructures, decoration, restructuring by lithography, and focused ion beam.

·Exploration of chemical, and physical properties of engineered carbon nanomaterials: mechanical, optical, electrical and electronic, magnetic, thermal, opto-electronic, thermoelectric, among others.

·Theoretical and computational studies of properties and engineering of carbon nanomaterials.

·Carbon nanomaterials-based solid-state devices and solution-based measurements for various applications.

Submitted articles should not be published or under review elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to the journal’s standard peer review process. Criteria for acceptance include originality, contribution, scientific merit and relevance to the field of interest of the Special Issue.

Tej B Limbu has an expertise on synthesis and engineering of nanomaterials, especially two-dimensional materials such as graphene and transition metal dichalcogenides, for transparent conducting electrode, thermal management, and surface-enhanced Raman scattering applications. He received an M. Sc. degree in physics from Tribhuvan university, Nepal and Ph. D. in chemical physics from the University of Puerto Rico, USA.
