The Introduction of the Special Issue

The field of quantum Information Science has the potential to revolutionize many areas of science and technology. Understanding and controlling the world at nano-scale - be it in biological, chemical or physical phenomenon - require quantum mechanics. It exploits fundamentally new modes of computation and communication, because it is based on the physical laws of quantum mechanics instead of classical physics. It holds the promise of immense computing power beyond the capabilities of any classical computer. The worldwide interest in the subject may be gauged by the recent significant increase of funding in quantum information technology. The purpose of this special issue is to shed light on few features that are exploited for future practical realizations of quantum information theory and communication.

Submitted articles should not be published or under review elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to the journal’s standard peer review process. Criteria for acceptance include originality, contribution, scientific merit and relevance to the field of interest of the Special Issue.
