The Introduction of the Special Issue

Recently,a large number of technologies based on machine intelligence have been developed and applied to solve a diverse range of industrial problems. By utilizing powerful computing resources and massive amounts of data, methods based on machine intelligence can significantly improve the reliability and performance of many industrial devices and platforms. Techniques including machine learning, deep neural networks, artificial intelligence, optimization algorithms,image processing and computer vision, data mining, intelligent and automatic control, and computer security have constituted the most important parts of machine intelligence. However, the success of machine intelligence in a large solutions to more complex and inter disciplinary problems in industrial applications.

a diverse set of challenges must be tackled to bring machine intelligence to today’s emerging edge applications.For example, the power requirements for a network of wireless sensors can only be satisfied with a self-adaptive and sophisticated control mechanism; the security of data transmission in lo T can only be guaranteed with robust encryption or information-hiding algorithms. Interdisciplinary techniques that combine knowledge from a few different fields have started to emerge in state-of-the-art solutions for industrial problems. The major goal of this special issue is thus to disseminate research results and promote research activities at the cutting edge of our knowledge regarding the new interdisciplinary developments in both theories and applications of machine intelligence.

Submitted articles should not be published or under review elsewhere. All submissions will be subject to the journal’s standard peer review process. Criteria for acceptance include originality, contribution, scientific merit and relevance to the field of interest of the Special Issue.

Yinglei Song

Yinglei Song received his B.S. in physics from Tsinghua University in China in 1998 and his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Georgia, USA in 2006. From year 2007 to 2012, he worked as an assistant professor of computer science at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, USA. Currently he is working as a professor at the Jiangsu University of Science and Technology, China. His research interests include design and analysis of algorithms, machine learning and data mining, image processing, and bioinformatics.
